The objectives of the program are (a) to enhance our fundamental understanding of the behavior of bulk nanostructured materials, (b) to establish the influence of composition and synthesis on performance, (c) to improve the properties of available nanophase aluminum and nickel alloys through chemistry and processing optimization, and (d) to assess additional technology applications for naval and commercial uses. A symbiotic combination of experiments and theoretical studies will be used to approach these challenges.
