Lab Meeting (5/27/10)–broader impacts
- I started talking about Professors for the Future on campus (http://gradstudies.ucdavis.edu/pftf/index.html) and I gave a brief overview of my project; part of my project was my webpage (http://biosport.ucdavis.edu/research-projects/broader-impacts/UCD-resources).
- Basically I developed this project because I wanted to both increase the amount of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) talent in the US and to help grad students have broader impacts with their research (which is a large part of any NSF grant proposal).
- Then I showed example outreach videos dealing with research, noting that the best ones are 3 minutes or less. We discussed the fact that a scientific audience may appreciate more of a narration versus a video dubbed with a current/popular song. The example videos I showed and talked about were:
