Photo Resolution and Monitor Settings

Photo Resolutions

Almost all photographs are presented in two JPG files. The photos that accompany the main text for each topic are “thumbnails” with a typical resolution of 130 by 200 pixels and a file size of 5-15 KB. Each thumbnail is linked to a higher resolution JPG version of the same photo. The higher resolution photos have a typical resolution of 620 by 930 pixels and a file size of 80-130 KB. These photos are of sufficient quality for use in a powerpoint projection presentation.

 Monitor Settings & Viewing

In our experience, the photographs show very poorly on monitors with the screen resolution set to 800 by 600 pixels. A screen resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels, or better, results in very clear viewing.
