Evaluation of Laboratory Scale Rice Milling

Improving consistency and accuracy of rice milling appraisals is an increasingly important goal in rice industry, as the monetary value of rice lot is appraised based on its milling quality. This research project assessed the consistency in rice milling quality results obtained from the official FGIS laboratory mill operated under USDA standard procedures and those obtained from commercial mills. The project report includes findings and discussions about the results from the two-year sampling related to the temperature and relative humidity of milling environment, temperatures of rough and milled rice, moisture content, dockage, milling quality. The related research also studied the milling temperature and sample preparation on the milling quality results.
